| Master of Figure Collection Mario Belissimo
"Portrait of a Flamenco Dancer" - Mario Belissimo The story goes that Mario Belissimo, a contemporary Florence Artist whose painting style was influenced by Frederic Bazille (1841-70), a renowned French artist who studied along side with Claude Monet, and Alfred Sisley (1839-99). Mainly a self-taught realist, he studied Nude Painting with disciples of Gustave Courbet (1819-77) and was first infatuated by the stunning beauty of the Spanish Flamenco Dancer, then later obsessed by her dance talent that he had to spend two years of his life in Spain to pursuit and convince his non-reciprocal lover to pose for him semi-nude as shown in this painting. The story went on to say that this was his first and last romantic conquer that eventually led him to have her body at the end of the modeling session (which took an entire month) but only after another three years of his romantic pursuit to finally win her heart and mind. The lower half of the painting was intentionally left with not much detail because the Artist wanted to emphasize the fact that his Flamenco dancer had never before exposed her "back" for anyone especially in this manner. Another source of closer friends told us that perhaps his infatuation with her beauty at the time was so great that prevented him to complete his work on her back. This painting "Portrait of a Flamenco Dancer" was the last work in nude painting for Belissimo who felt in love and sworn that he'd never paint another woman. He kept this undying love and promise up to last day of his life (1938-1998). Invest in this painting is like investing in an unending romantic love story of our time.
